5 Reasons why you should get an airport homecoming photographer

Do you feel robbed of a typical post deployment homecoming experience because your spouse or significant other was selected to fly off the ship early?? Did you have a difficult birth or high risk pregnancy and need your SO home? Perhaps they were injured or came home due to unfortunate circumstances? Don’t worry! You, too, can have a beautiful homecoming experience that can be even more special than meeting on the flight line or deck of the ship.

Here are 5 reasons you should consider hiring a photographer to make the most of your airport homecoming.

Your Sanity.

Let’s be real. Your sanity is important! you don’t need to be worried about cell phone photos or even needing to keep track of your phone. You get to be in the moment and enjoy what is happening. You don’t even have to bring a lawn chair, how nice! Most the time you are at the airport for less than an hour and can plan your outfits more accurately since you will be in door and know the exact time ahead of time. You may even ask your SO to come back on a specific flight (the earliest possible or one during the day for the best photos).

More Available Photographers.

Because your SO or family member is not coming home with the bulk of the unit or ship they left with, there will be more photographers available, and the session wont take as long! This also means, for most photographers, there is a lower cost involved.

Cost.

In most cases, its cheaper because the flight home is with a typical airline that doesn’t shift forwards or backwards as much so a photographer doesn’t need to block out as many dates to be on call. A ship homecoming can take 5 hours or a Marine getting bussed to Camp Pendleton or Miramar can take even longer or happen in the middle of the night.

Less Waiting.

Since you are not sitting around as much and can get text notifications on flight delays, so does your photographer! The anticipation with a fresh newborn or crazy toddlers means you can rest assured your kiddos or visitors will have more patience and participate in photos (most the time, lol). It also means you can be in and out of the airport within 45 min and have your loved one in your arms on your way home.

Intimacy.

You actually don’t have to share your moment with nine-hundred-million other people coming home on the same carrier ship or wait for your loved one to be bussed to the correct base. You get the quiet reunion and your significant other is more than likely less stressed as well and can enjoy those precious kisses and hugs far more. - All meaning, the right photographer gets to capture these moments for you!

Ending notes.

Good things come to those who wait. After months at sea, your loved one will be thrilled to see you at the airport when they land. But no matter how special their homecoming is, it can’t compare with a professional airport photo session that captures the magic of this moment in time.

If this wasn’t enough to convince you, here are some airport homecomings I have photographed the past few years
