In-home newborn | What to have on hand | 2018 San Diego Throwback
Part of why I love in-home newborn sessions is that everyone can be more relaxed and comfortable. Shooting these sessions in the comfort of your home allows for parents to have all the normal resources, making everyone (including baby!) feel more comfortable and relaxed. They also allow me to be a fly on the wall for all of the tender interactions between a new family unit.
Sometimes its fun to reedit older work - Here is a little boy’s in home newborn session from 2018
A TYPICAL NEWBORN SESSION LOOKS LIKE….
DAY OF
Even though we may have a general plan, each session is going to be unique. - Each baby has their own personality, looks, quirks, temperament, and needs. We will always go with babies flow and stay flexible.
WHERE IN YOUR HOME
When I arrive, I will take a look through your home to check out the areas we talked about photographing in and find the best one (or some)I will be looking for an area with a lot of natural light; sometimes this is a wall in the dining room, on parents bed, or in the nursery. From there I will assist in putting awa
y or moving anything we need to be moved so we have space for the photography, and avoid complex backdrops.
HOT OR COLD?
Babies like it warmer. they’re happy naked when it's warmer as well. As we change in and out of outfits; it’s important to keep the room warm and always keep the baby comfortable first. Yeah, that does mean we will all be sweating! And that is totally okay.
MILK TIME
Try to keep your newborn(s) awake and stimulated an hour before I am to arrive for our session – if the baby is tired when the session starts, they can have another feeding mid-session and sleep well. Once I am in your home, this is the best time for a feeding and a diaper change while I help prep the family and space.
TEMPER TANTRUMS
A Lot of the time during your newborn session will be spent getting the baby calmed down, entertaining siblings (and sometimes animals), moving around and taking breaks for feedings, diaper blowouts (yes this happens almost every time), diaper changes, outfit changes, etc. I like to work closely with you to keep baby happy and safe while still capturing their true cuteness.
CLOTHING CHOICES
Anything is welcome that you wish to have your portraits taken in. Of course, I will also provide you with outfit guides after my questionnaire that helps me get to know your family dynamic a little more. You are not required to provide any props, I will be bringing a variety of things with me that have the following:
Swaddles, bows, hand-knitted hats/blankets (by me), some outfits, other hats, texture additions, and more.
PROPS
It is common to want a sentimental item included in your session - show me when I arrive! That way we can plan it into our session. Sometimes it's a sentimental blanket or a knitted hat by a family member, a stuffed animal, etc.
WHAT TO HAVE ON HAND
If using a pacifier, a solid plain paci without any attachments like an animal or clips - these natural Nuk brand, Itzy Ritzy Natural Rubber, or your typical Philips AVENT Soothie.
